Mental As Anything are undoubtedly one of Australia's best-loved and most prestigious rock bands. Over three decades, they have released more than a dozen albums which have spawned countless hits, including 'If You Leave Me Can I Come Too?', 'Too Many Times', 'Let's Cook', 'I Didn't Mean To Be Mean' and 'The Nips Are Getting Bigger'. Their quirky garage pop sound has won them fans across the globe, and they helped inspire Australia's fertile early-90s alt. pop/rock scene. Now, after thirty years of musical dominance, the band is celebrating its birthday in style.

Essential As Anything is a new CD/DVD collection from the Mentals that looks back at their career in sound and images. The CD features 24 of the band's best-known songs, while the DVD collects their off-the-wall music videos, as well as backstage footage, interview snippets and other archival rarities. Rounding out the package is a booklet featuring detailed liner notes and archival photography.

In addition, 2009 marks the first year that the full Mental As Anything catalogue has been made available digitally. All ten of the band's classic albums, as well as their iconic videos, can now be purchased via online retailers. And from May, a line of Mental As Anything 30th anniversary merchandise will be available on the band's official website.

The Mentals have no plans to slow down, with a new album, Tents Up, in the works and slated for a mid-year release. The band also plans to tour extensively throughout its thirtieth anniversary year. Make sure you catch these Aussie rock icons in 2009 as they salute the past and look to the future.
